About Southern Group Practice
Our Activity and Workload
Southern Group Practice is based in Port Erin and provides NHS primary care services to patients across the south of the Isle of Man. We are committed to delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare to our local community.
Our practice provides care to more than 8,000 patients with a team of 4 GPs, supported by Practice Nurses, a Phlebotomist and an experienced administrative team. We also work closely with attached professionals such as First Contact Physiotherapists and Mental Health Practitioners.
In 2025, the practice delivered 41,687 appointments. This works out at an average of 5.2 appointments per patient per year.
On average, each GP is responsible for approximately 2,000 patients.
In addition to clinic appointments, the practice also carries out a high number of home visits, around 75 per month, or approximately 900 per year. These visits are often more time-consuming than standard appointments and reflect the complex needs of our patient demographic, which includes older people, patients with mental health and addiction problems, and those living in residential and nursing homes.
The practice also experiences a significant number of missed appointments, with around 50 patients not attending per month - equating to approximately 600 appointments per year.
